Collaborating with disability communities in low resource countries to voice their stories

IRF is leading a movement to transform how persons with disabilities maximize their leadership by producing videos and teaching them how to create digital media. We reach out to disability communities in low-income and isolated countries and work with them to empower each other to speak out and be in charge of making positive changes. IRF challenges stigma and various barriers blocking the collaborative participation of people living with disabilities.

Cinema Dakar Logo

An educational program designed to teach African children with disabilities how to use video production equipment to report local news stories.

Cinema Dakar achieved great success in early 2020 at both the Centre Talibu Dabo disability school and the Centre Hospitalier de l'Ordre de Malte in Senegal. Students and Patients learned professional video production skills and created dozens of videos on several medical, educational and cultural subjects.

  • Work with middle & high school students with disabilities of all types and levels.
  • Engage students in hands-on curriculum to learn video production, news gathering techniques and job readiness skills
  • Produce weekly video newscasts focused on disability issues.

This work is made possible by our generous donors and dedicated partners who support the talents of those with disabilties.
